Nandi Timmana - Telugu Poet

Nandi Thimmana (15th and 16th centuries CE) was a Telugu poet and was one of the Astadiggajas (literally eight elephants) in the court of the king Krishnadevaraya.

He is believed to be from Anantapur and was born to Singanna and Thimmamaamba. He lived in a subkingdom of Vijayanagara Empire, whose princess was Thirumaladevi. He entered Krishnadevaraya's court along with Thirumaladevi, when the king married her.

He was a Saiva and was a disciple of Guru Aghora Siva, yet some of his works are based on Vaishanavism because of imperial patronage. His uncles Nandi Mallaya and Ganta Singana (known as Malaya Maruta) were a famous poetic pair in the the court of Viranarasimha Raya, father of Krishnadevaraya.

He was more popular as Mukku Thimmana because of his poem on beautiful nose. Mukku means nose in Telugu.

Krishnadevaraya - Telugu King & Poet

Krishnadevaraya (1509-1529 CE) was the most famous king of Vijayanagara empire. He presided over the empire at its zenith. He is regarded as a hero of people of Kannada and Telugu descent in South India and considered to be one of the great kings of India. Emperor Krishnadevaraya also earned the titles Andhra Bhoja and Kannada Rajya Rama Ramana. Much of our information about his reign comes from the accounts of Portuguese travelers Domingos Paes and Nuniz. He was assisted in the administration by the very able prime minister Timmarusu. It was Timmarusu, who was responsible for the coronation of Krishnadevaraya. Krishnadevaraya revered Timmarusu as a father figure. Krishnadevaraya was the son of Nagala Devi and Tuluva Narasa Nayaka an army commander under Saluva Narasimha Deva Raya, who later took control of the reign of the empire to prevent it from disintigration. The kings coronation took place on the birthday of Lord Krishna and his earliest inscription is from July 26th. 1509 C.E. He built a beautiful suburb near Vijayanagara called Nagalapura in memory of his mother.

Allasani Peddana - Telugu Poet

lasani Peddana (15th and 16th centuries CE) was a famous Telugu poet and was ranked as the foremost of the Astadiggajas the title for the group of eight poets in the court of King Krishnadevaraya, a ruler of the Vijayanagara Empire.

His birth place is Peddanapadu, a small village located at 5km from Yerraguntla on Yerraguntla-Vempalli road in Kadapa District. Still there are few remains around the village which strongly indicates about his presence in that area. He was a Vaishnavite.
He wrote the first major Prabandha, a form of fictional poetry in Telugu, and for this reason, he is revered as Andhra Kavithaa Pithaamahudu (literally the father of telugu poetry). It is believed that he was also a minister in the king's court and is hence sometimes referred as Peddanaamaatya (Etymology: Peddana + Amaatya = Peddana, the minister). He dedicated his work to king Krishnadevaraya.

Devulapalli Krishnasastri - Telugu Poet, Bhava Kavi

Devulapalli Krishnasastri (1887-1981) is a Telugu poet and was born in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, India. He was brought up in family of court-poets and he started writing poetry from a very young age. Krishnasastri's works changed significantly after he met Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore at Santiniketan in 1929.

Krishnasastri joined All India Radio in 1945 and has written number of plays for it.
Krishansastri is popularly known as 'Bhava Kavi'

Vemana was a Telugu poet. He composed numerous poems in Telugu in Aata Veladhi metre which consists of four lines; the fourth line, with some exceptions, is the refrain or chorus Viswadabhirama Vinura Vema. Vemana's style is simple, his poems deal with social problems and sometimes propose solutions too. With the zeal of a social reformer, many of his poems criticise and strive to give fresh perspective to ardent followers of old, embedded traditions. Vemana is often portrayed in the nude.

Annamacharya - Biography, Songs Lyrics

Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya (శ్రీ తాళ్ళపాక అన్నమాచార్య) (1408-1503), the mystic saint composer of the 15th century is the earliest known musician of South India to compose songs called “sankeertanas” in praise of Lord Venkateswara, the deity of Seven Hills in Tirumala, India. He is widely regarded as the Telugu pada kavita pitaamaha (Grand sire of telugu word poetry).

Biography

Annamacharya was born on Vaisakha Poornima in the year Sarwadhari (May 9, 1408) in Tallapaka, a remote village in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh, India. He lived immaculately for 95 years until Phalguna Bahula Dwadasi (12th day after full moon) in the year Dhundhubhi (February 23, 1503). His wife, Thimmakka is also a poet and had written Subhadra Kalyanam and considered as the first Telugu women poet.
